Out and About

This week we headed into Newcastle where we braved Primark for the first time to spend a birthday voucher. I think it was the longest I’ve worn a mask for in one go and I wasn’t a fan, but overall it was fine! We had a tasty avocado brunch from our favourite Vegan place, Super Natural then went in search of art supplies. The Newcastle Arts Centre and Craftshop has all the art supplies you could want and a beautiful selection of handmade and local gifts too! I picked up a few presents and a sketchbook and even treated myself to some fancy paintbrushes. The centre was created inside a historical part of the city, along the course of Hadrian’s Wall. The foundations of a Roman Milecastle and several wells were discovered on the site in the 80s. I had no idea that the wall was so far from the modern-day Scottish border and its history is fascinating. I definitely need to explore more of it one day soon! If you’re curious, you can discover more here.

Reading

Sleeper’s Castle

I’m still reading Barbara Erskine’s Sleepers Castle and really enjoying it. I’ve had really vivid dreams every night since reading it, which is strange as the main character experiences something similar! Although I haven’t found myself in 14th-century wales yet! I have to say, pronouncing some of the Welsh names in the book has been a challenge!

The Green Witch: Your Complete Guide to the Natural Magic of Herbs, Flowers, Essential Oils, and More

This beautiful book is full of ways to experience the very real magic of nature! This is more of a dip-in-and-out book, rather than a cover-cover book. I love how Arin Hiscock-Murphy encourages a deeper connection with the natural world through easy everyday practices. It really got me thinking of what I want to do with our garden and which house plants I’ll be growing next!

Watching

This week I started Watching Casketeers which I instantly loved. It follows the day to day lives of Tipene funeral directors in New Zealand. Not only are the family and staff wonderful and funny to watch but it also gives an insight into the incredible Maori culture, something I personally knew very little about. Naturally, it sparked my curiosity and I did a little further research! This mini-documentary I found on Youtube is a good place to start if you’d like to know a little more. What do you know about Maori culture? I’d love to know any book recommendations.

Creating

Curiosity Creates

I’m trying to get myself into a routine of daily sketching at the moment. I’m also really looking forward to listing new products in the shop but there’s been a bit of delay with the new packaging! I did share my first ever IGTV this week though which was a fun process! If you read the first post in the series, you will remember me talking about videos that are almost hypnotic to watch. I love art time-lapses for that, almost like a few minutes of meditation! I’d love to know what you think??
