Out and About

This week we headed up to Alnwick in Northumberland. Famous for Alnwick Castle, one of the Harry Potter filming locations and also home to the beautiful Alnwick gardens. However, we didn’t go to either this time! After a wander around the historic centre and admiring the old buildings (we all know I’m a sucker for an old town by now!) we headed to Barter Books. Inside this Victorian train station is the largest collection of second-(third, fourth, fifth….seventy-fifth…)-hand books I’ve ever seen. So many old treasures to be discovered! You can also grab a coffee or something to eat and enjoy the magic of the artwork, literary quotes and model railway. Naturally, I wanted to know a little more about the place and its history and discovered its incredible connection to the ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ posters!

This week I finished reading The Scarlet Code and while I patiently wait (hope) for a sequel, I’ve started Sleepers Castle by Barbara Erskine. Last year I read The Ghost Tree by the same author and I absolutely loved it. Fantastic read and definitely want to read more of her books. Did you know that ‘time slip’ is a writing genre?? Barbara Erskine perfectly blends historical fiction and modern-day life with a little spooky twist! Highly recommend!

Youtube discoveries

What do we want? Dresses with pockets! When do we want it? NOW!

Dresses in pockets – amiright?? Well, this week I discovered that even before the days of having phones, purses, sanitiser and masks to carry, pockets never came easy… Can you imagine going through this every day!?

Black is King

WOW. Beyonce is a Goddess, of course, so it wasn’t a surprise that her latest project is golden. This visual album is an incredible take on the Lion King and its stories. The whole thing is a masterpiece and a pure celebration of black and African culture. Have you seen it yet?
